Where have I been?

Well, it has been a busy couple of weeks. We had loads and loads and loads of snow, topped off by three feet by Christmas morning at my Mom's house just outside of Seattle!

We had a lot of christmas fun, full of lovely decor. My Mom's tree is always my favorite...

But, we didn't do too bad ourselves decorating our little living room.

I was so sad to take it all down, but by New Year's Eve, it had to be done! We had a great time ringing in the new year at a local pub with friends...

And to top it all off, we've almost finished our bathroom...we spent the first couple of days of the year painting and painting...

First, we had to scrape off some of the old flakey paint. Can you believe the colors that have been used over the past 80 years?

Well, we took care of that with a nice clean coat of silver grey paint. I love it!

We have a nice new shower head, and it is at the proper height!

The grey looks so great against the white trim, sink and toilet!

Now, the finishing touches. We have a new fan/light combo which is functional and great

And our gorgeous light fixture will go up here, above the medicine cabinet next week!

As soon as the light is up, I'll post more pictures. Now, on to the dilemma of staying with a neutral grey, white and black palette or going for a pop of color. We still need a shower curtain and perhaps some art above the toilet. There are so many options, I just can't decide!

Happy Halloween!

There is nothing like a good holiday to get me back in the mood for blogging. Things have been super hectic with the move, but we're in our little house and loving it! Look for posts starting next week chronicling our quest to make our house a home. But....back to the subject at hand: HALLOWEEN!

I have to give props to this guy!

Stein just sent this to me and I just had to share it. There he is working away in his office and what does he see out the window? Spider Man! What a great costume for a window washer. Way to celebrate the season, man! I love it. I just can't get enough of this guy.

Thank you for making my day window washer man. You're the best. And to you all...have a safe and fun Halloween!

Happy Bastille Day!

In honor of France's "Fête Nationale", I thought I would post some photos from my trip to Paris in February. This was my first trip to this magical place and I absolutely loved it! I can't wait until my next trip. Enjoy the view...

The Hall of Mirrors at Versailles

Arc de Triomphe

A different view of the Eiffel Tower

Can you believe this gorgeous statue flanked a garage door opening?

Speaks for itself!

Inside Musée d'Orsay

This beauty by van Gogh nearly made me wet my pants!

The impressive Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral

Tre Magnific!

There are so many more photos to share, these are just the highlights. On my last trip, I definitely ran around like a camera crazy tourist, flashing photos left and right. My next trip will be a bit more leisurely, sipping champagne, browsing through shops and falling in love with Paris all over again!

Red, White and Blueberry!

When wondering what to post for the 4th of July, what came to mind? Cocktails of course! Enjoy this fabulous Blueberry Mojito recipe, courtesy of St. Joe's Bar in New Orleans (via Food & Wine Magazine) inspired by my friend Gavin who works at Sostanza in Madison Park, here in Seattle.

INGREDIENTS
10 mint leaves, plus 1 mint sprig for garnish
10 blueberries
3/4 ounce Simple Syrup
Ice
1 1/2 ounces gold rum
1 ounce fresh lime juice
1 ounce chilled club soda
1 ounce chilled Sprite

DIRECTIONS
In a cocktail shaker, muddle the mint leaves, blueberries and Simple Syrup. Fill with ice, add the rum and lime juice and shake well. Strain into an ice-filled highball glass, top with the club soda and Sprite and garnish with the mint sprig.

What could be better than that? Sweet, tart and totally patriotic! OK, maybe that is going a bit too far. Enjoy your 4th of July everyone...I'll see you Monday!
